Sleeps 4 · Private hot tub · Field sauna & plunge pool · South Downs, West Sussex · From £210/night
After more than a century as a working dairy and cow barn, Gold Top has been completely reimagined as one of West Sussex's most distinctive holiday lets. The bones are original — raw plaster walls, sanded floorboards, exposed beams — but the details are anything but rustic. Milk churn bedside tables, statement gold lighting, hand-picked colourful tiles, and a French-style super king bed so comfortable it'll make you reconsider life at home.
Sleep:
Super king bedroom on the ground floor, plus a mezzanine double with sweeping field views — ideal for families or small groups.
Kitchen:
Fully equipped for proper cooking. Large fridge/freezer, modern oven, dishwasher, and everything you need. Skylark-roasted coffee and local tea waiting on arrival.
Bathroom:
Walk-in rainfall shower and a freestanding double-ended bath.
Living:
Sink into the sofa beside the wood burner, or step straight out to your private hot tub and watch the last light fade across the South Downs.
The Meadow:
Follow the twinkly-lit bridge through the garden and you'll find your own private meadow with fire pit and picnic area — extraordinary under a clear night sky.
Gold Top guests have access to Northblows' full outdoor wellness offering:
Your private wood-fired hot tub — set in your own garden, heated and ready. Settle in and watch the stars emerge.
The Field Sauna & Cold Plunge Pool (brand new) — shared with Wisp guests, set in the open field with views across the countryside. The Scandinavian hot-cold ritual is one of the most effective ways to decompress, reset, and feel genuinely restored. Heat up in the sauna, then take the cold plunge. Repeat under open skies in an International Dark Skies Reserve. There's simply nowhere better to do it.
Walk to the Fountain Inn in Ashurst - a 16th century pub with inglenook fires, around 25 minutes on foot. Cycle the South Downs Link (feel free to borrow our bikes). Drive to Shoreham Beach for a coastal swim (approx 10 miles). Have a tour of Wiston Estate and enjoy our local champagne. Visit the Knepp Rewilding Project.
Barn owls hunt the fields most morning and evenings. Deer emerge from Spithandle Woods. Woodpeckers in autumn, cuckoos in spring, swallows in summer. You might even spot a stork flying over from Knepp - truly spectacular!
Northblows sits within an International Dark Skies Reserve - the night sky, on a clear night, is genuinely breathtaking.

We loved our stay at Gold Top. The space was beautifully designed, spacious and comfortable. Nicola was very helpful and we had everything we needed for our stay. The location is great for Ditchling Beacon and Knepp Estate. We would definitely recommend Gold Top to friends and family, and would happily return.
Lovely. Great location with nice country walks on doorsteps. Converted cow shed perfect mix of rustic charm and home comforts. Hot tub great - even with 4 hour prep time - and lovely outside spaces to relax when sun’s out.
We had a lovely time at Gold top. The cabin was beautiful decorated and cosy. The beds very very comfortable. The outside area was amazing we spent our evening either in the hot tub or watching wildlife from the field. We visited many places in the local are as suggest by our host. We particularly like seeing the wallabies been fed. We ran out of time to go on the local walks so would love to come back again to explore more. The local butchers were very friendly and the meat was delicious and reasonably priced. Which made a tasty BBQ..
We had such a lovely stay at Gold Top. The location was great, peaceful and surrounded by nature. Nicola and her family were so welcoming it made it feel like a home away from home. We found everything we needed and more. The hot tub was brilliant, easy to use and very relaxing. The beds were extremely comfortable and Tyson loved sleeping in the mezzanine and looking out over the fields.
It was our third visit here and was as wonderful as ever! A perfect way to begin the year, with slow, still days and the wood burner!
We had a fabulous time at Gold Top and found every aspect of the booking to be really seamless and easy. The space was beautiful and exactly as described, the instructions on the website and from the owners were clear and helpful, and we wanted for nothing.
Gorgeous barn conversion. We all felt immediately at peace with no want for distraction back from 'normal' life. Lovely walks all around. It's been beautifully done with amazing, comfy beds.
It was a perfect stay away from our busy lives, in a cosy, quirky and stylish little bolt hole! Star gazing in the hot tub was highlight. We would most certainly return!
Dreamlike perfection in an oasis of beautiful interiors and countryside. The barn is so lovingly converted and furnished. The outdoor spaces are vast, but with cosy books. Having a massive hot tub, fire pit, BBQ and picnic areas is so lavish. The bed in the main bedroom is so comfortable and huge, gorgeous linen. Gorgeous touches like bath salts and local coffee make it very like a treat. The hosts are brilliant - responsive and lovely. Will certainly be back!
What a magical place this is, we loved staying in the old dairy barn with it's beautiful decor inside and out. Thoughtfully designed outside spaces so you have privacy and a taste of the countryside. Rachel and Nicola are lovely hosts and gave us loads of ideas for places to visit. Soaking in the wood fired hot tub watching the sun go down over the meadow was amazing. A gem of a place to chill out and enjoy nature.
